'Sonic Mania' Release Date, Features and News: SEGA Announces New Collector's Edition; Includes 12-Inch Statue and SEGA Cartridge

The upcoming side-scrolling platform game "Sonic Mani" a is nearing its release date, and with it comes a very interesting Collector's Edition that will surely bring nostalgia to fans, enthusiasts, and gamers.

'Sonic Mania Collector's Edition'

SEGA, the famous publisher of retro games back in the olden days, will soon be releasing a beautiful "Sonic Mania Collector's Edition." This package will come with a lot of bundled stuff, including items that will surely take anyone who buys them to the time when Sonic the Hedgehog was at the peak of its game.

In a tweet, the official account of Sonic the Hedgehog announced the upcoming game bundle.

The "Sonic Mania Collector's Edition" is available for pre-order for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One from Amazon and Sonic the Hedgehog's official website. It retails for $69.99 and will be available for a limited time and only to the North American region, so fans are urged to grab the opportunity to pre-order as soon as they can.

Inside the Box

The "Sonic Mania Collector's Edition" will feature a box which has a visual style of SEGA Genesis-era games. Aside from the main "Sonic Mania" video game, there are a lot of trinkets that come with the package.

The download key for the actual "Sonic Mania" game will be packaged in a small yellow Metallic Collector's Card featuring Sonic the Hedgehog. There is also a SEGA Cartridge Cast that features one of the Golden Rings which players are required to collect in most video games of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

Lastly, there is also a 12-inch Sonic the Hedgehog statue included. The titular character is shown standing atop of a SEGA Genesis. This console has a power button that allows players to toggle it on or off. Upon turning it on, the user will hear the very familiar and nostalgic SEGA startup jingle.

'Sonic Mania' Gameplay and Availability

This nostalgic feeling induced by the SEGA items goes in line with the company's main objective for the new "Sonic Mania" game. The upcoming video game goes back to its two dimensional roots to give it the classic touch and feeling it used to sport.

Per usual, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are available as playable characters. It is a classic race game that features all new zones with re-imagined standard ones. Each zone contains surprises along the way and includes powerful boss type characters. Sonic now has a Drop Dash ability, Tails can now fly, and Knuckles possess climbing abilities to help the player throughout the adventure.

"Sonic Mania" was originally announced by SEGA at the San Diego Comic-Con last July. It will be released in Spring 2017, and will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
