'Sonic the Hedgehog' Animated Series in CGI Coming Fall 2014
Sega recently revealed Sonic the Hedgehog will be returning to television in a new animated show that will air in the U.S. and France.
According to Asahi.com, the series has the working title of Sonic Boom and will be premiering sometime in the fall of 2014. The series will be comprised of 52 episodes that will each be 11 minutes.
Sega said on their blog that the series will be in full CGI- a first for a Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. The creators of Sonic Boom are Sega of America and French company Genao Productions. Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Team head, is overseeing the whole project.

Familiar characters from Sonic's universe, such as Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik and Amy Rose, will also be making an appearance throughout the cartoon, Asahi reported.
Sonic was in four other animated television shows over the last 20 years. The first, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, began in 1993 and ran for four seasons. In the same year, Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) ran for two seasons in 1993 as well. Sonic Underground aired in 1999 and ran for two seasons. All three shows were voiced by Jaleel White, the actor who played Steve Urkel on "Family Matters."
The fourth and last Sonic series was called Sonic X. This cartoon ran from 2003 to 2006 and had three seasons.
Recently the Blue Blur was a star of his new video game called Sonic Lost World, which was released on the Wii U and 3DS on just two weeks ago.
Early reviews for the games have said the 3DS version of the game is superior to the Wii U version, continuing the tradition of the Sega Sonic Team perhaps trying to do too much with everyone's beloved hedgehog. The 3DS version is praised for its good graphics, solid level design, and gameplay, but the Wii U version was widely panned by critics.
