Gaming technology has really gone a long way. With virtual reality gaining momentum in the tech industry, giant companies were quick to adapt. Now, we take a look at the Sony PlayStation VR and the Oculus Rift.
Design and Comfort
There is no doubt that these two devices have premium and futuristic designs. They are both crafted for both function and comfort, so gaming experience would be as immersive as possible. They are also both well-designed to reduce all possible device intrusions and distractions while gaming. The Oculus Rift is a tad more comfortable than the Sony PlayStation VR due to the black fabric finish.

However, the Sony headgear also has its own tricks up its sleeve. Some of the device's components have been positioned above the goggles, lifting weight from the users' cheeks and nose.
This design allows for weight to be distributed more efficiently.
Display
The Sony PlayStation VR is equipped with a single 5.7-inch display and 1920 x 1080 screen resolution. It touts an OLED technology with RGB subpixels, coupled with a 120 Hertz refresh rate. The display is split into two, giving off a 960 x 1080 picture quality to each of the user's eye.
The Oculus Rift, on the other hand, tops out at 90 Hertz of refresh rate. While this is already high and compensates for the requirements to avoid eye strain, the Sony offering does much better. However, the Oculus Rift has a larger 110-degree viewing angle as compared to the PlayStation VR's 100.
Game Controls
For game tracking, the Sony PlayStation Camera will be tracking nine LED sensors present around the headset. This occurs a thousand times per second and can even track the back of the user's head. The DualShock 4 controllers can also be utilized to interact with games.
The Oculus Rift then uses Windows 10 as its platform. The paired computer must be capable of running current generation 3D games in at least 1080p resolution and 75fps. This entails at least an Intel i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD 290 graphics card. The Oculus Touch is utilized to interact with the games
Price
The PlayStation VR will be launching on October 13 with a $399 price tag. There is also the option for a bundle with the PlayStation Eye camera and Move controllers. There would be a game disc with demos included in the package. There is also an option to bundle the headgear with the recently released PlayStation 4 Pro.
Meanwhile, the Oculus Rift will be shipping with a heftier price. It will retail for $599, which already includes the shipping fee and taxes. The device will then be coming with free games and an Xbox One control pad.
