Sony Xperia Android 4.4 KitKat Updates Now Available for Arc, Arc S, Neo and More

The Sony Xperia line received the Android 4.4 KitKat update last week in the form of a new ROM.

This week several more smartphones in the line were able to get a taste of KitKat including the Xperia Arc, Arc S, Neo, Neo V, Mini, Mini Pro, Active, Xperia Pro, Xperia Ray, Live and WalkMan.

The ROM was officiated by LegacyXperia project who was able to port Android 4.4 via CyanogenMod11. The software is said to be reasonably stable at this point, according to Android Authority, however, several features don't seem to be working such as FM radio, 720p video recording, HDMI and WiFi tethering. Wi-Fi is currently working with some bugs. For more details on the ROMs readers can visit the LegacyXperia Project site.

Sony recently revealed its plans for rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat and 4.3 JellyBean to many of its more popular devices including the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia Z1.

The company confirmed that the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V will all receive Android 4.3 sometime in the very near future. Sony did not give specific dates.

Android 4.4 KitKat will be released for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1. They also did not announce specific dates but did state that they would start rolling out during the first quarter of 2014.

Sony claims this is just the "first raft" of devices to receive those software upgrades. The list will be updated more in the coming weeks and months.

Android 4.4 KitKat was introduced alongside the Nexus 5 at the beginning of this month.
