Sony Xperia L1: Large-Screen Budget Phone With Premium Styling

While Sony has already launched quite a number of devices at the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the company is not done just yet. The company has released the specs for the Sony Xperia L1, a smartphone aimed at the budget price range. The phone packages adequate specs in a sharp looking device and is set to launch in April this year.

After the Xperia XZ Premium and the Xperia XA1, Sony turned to the entry level price tier and announced their handset for the budget phone buyer. The Xperia L1 and its various models will make up Sony's line of affordable handsets, according to a feature by the PC Advisor.

While no announcements have been made by Sony regarding the price range of the Xperia L1 line of devices, the company promises that their 5.5 inch handset will be "economical," as quoted by CNet. The specs has already been announced by Sony, and it looks to be something that will be, to quote Sony, at an "accessible price point."

The phone looks very much like the Xperia Z5 Compact, if a bit bigger. According to Tsutomu Sato, Director of Global Product Marketing at Sony Mobile, "Xperia L1 is a smartphone that matches form with function. It combines an immersive display and smooth performance within an iconic Sony design that you can be proud to show off."

The Xperia L1 will run Android 7 Nougat on a MediaTek 1.45GHz chip, with 2 GB random-access memory (RAM) and 16 GB internal storage — expandable with a Micro-SD card slot that can take up to 256 GB. For connectivity, the device has 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE), Bluetooth and Global Positioning System (GPS). The device will pack a 2,620 mAh battery and will accept single or dual Nano-SIMs.

Outside, the device will sport a 5.5-inch HD screen at 720p. It will have a single 13 MP rear camera, coupled with a 5 MP front camera. The Xperia L1 will initially come in white, black and pink variants.

Sony has set the release for the Xperia L1 at late April of this year, although there has been no specific date announced as of this time.
