A live photo of the upcoming flagship Sony Xperia Z smartphone leaked onto the internet this week.

The device is rumored to feature a 5-inch display with a 1080x1920 resolution at 441 pixel density. These specs match up with the ones found on the HTC Droid DNA smartphone which launched earlier this year.

Sony is expected to unveil this smartphone at this year's Consumer Electronics Show set to take place in Las Vegas.

Other specifications on the Sony Xperia Z include a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor with Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB RAM. It also will come with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a microSD slot.

The handset will support LTE connectivity and Android 4.1.2 will come pre-installed when it launches.

Sony will also be releasing the Xperia E smartphone sometime in February of 2013.

The U.K. retailer known as Carphone Warehouse stated that the smartphone will be arriving on shelves the second month of the year and that it will also start carrying the handset around the same time.

Sony recently unveiled the Xperia E as its latest midrange addition to the Xperia lineup.

Specifications on the device include a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 3.5-inch 480x320 touchscreen display, a 3.2-megapixel rear facing camera, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 1530mAh battery, and Sony's mobile software that includes Walkman apps and its Timescape user interface.

The specs on this device are a bit underwhelming as Sony seems to be aiming at a market that is not looking for a very flashy Android smarphone. Sony also did not feel the need to include a front-facing camera on the device.

The draw of the Xperia E happens to be the fact that it comes running Android 4.1, JellyBean straight out of the box. Other than that, it will need an extremely low price tag in order to attract Android enthusiasts.

Customers looking for a high-grade Sony device should wait for the Xperia Z.
