'Spider-Man' News, Update: Former Character Actor Revealed To Be "Petitioning" for Spidey To Join MCU's 'Avengers'

Long before Marvel and Sony announced that they would be joining hands to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character's previous portrayer had already been throwing some efforts for the wall crawler to join the Avengers.

Citing Uproxx.com, Comic Book Resources reported that "Amazing Spider-Man" star Andrew Garfield was so keen back then to have the "friendly neighbourhood" join his superhero colleagues.

Garfield told Uproxx that he had "been petitioning to hook up with Marvel since the beginning" and now that this wishes are coming to fruition, Garfield said that he's "really glad they're finally doing it."

The 32-year-old "99 Homes" star went on to divulge to the media outlet that he was actually not in talks with Marvel to reprise the role.

"No. To be honest [pauses], all the ins and outs of what happened is a more tender conversation that maybe I don't want to talk about in public in a press situation," he said (via CBR).

He did, meanwhile, talk about the possible plot should "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" project be realized. Garfield revealed during the interview that he had actually collaborated with the sequel's writer, Alex Kurtzman, about the movie.

"We thought to kind of start from the base level, the foundational level of where have we left Peter and where do we want to see him go and what's logical. And how do we build upon where we left off with this deep, desperate moment with Gwen?" he told Uproxx (via CBR).

The conversation with Uproxx did tread on the issue with the Peter Parker recasting. Garfield claimed to have no ill-feelings towards the entire process in fact, he was "really, really grateful for the whole ride of it." More so, he admitted to being quite "excited" for the next outing of Peter Parker, which will now be headlined by Tom Holland.

As previously reported, Spider-Man will first appear in 2016, this time joining Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) in "Captain America: Civil War."

The superhero's upcoming standalone movie, on the other hand, will be released on July 28, 2017 under the direction of Jon Watts with the scripts written by "Vacation" duo, John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein.
