'Star Trek 3' Release Date, Cast Rumors: Simon Pegg Helping to Write Script
Paramount's upcoming third installment of the rebooted sci-fi series "Star Trek," has now found its new director in the person of the "Fast Five" helmer Justin Lin. Aside from that, the studio also announced the new writing team is to be led by "Banshee" and "Dark Blue" screenwriter Doug Jung.
Earlier reports also mentioned "Star Trek" cast member Simon Pegg, who plays the U.S.S. Enterprise Lt. Com. Montgomery Scott, given with new assignment – to write the sequel's script with Jung.
Needless to say, Pegg's new involvement as screenwriter in the project garnered mixed reactions from the public. But one co-actor stepped up to inform the media that Simon's writing "is the perfect fit."
Lead franchise actor Chris Pine recently spoke with MTV.com during the Sundance Film Festival for his new movie "Z for Zachariah." When it comes to Pegg's script works, Pine laughed about it.
"We are worried," the Capt. James T. Kirk actor joked with reporters "Vast, vast Simon Pegg monologues."
He later changed the tone to inform them that Simon did reach out to the rest of the cast, telling them about his new job.
"Yeah, he sent an e-mail to all of us, and we're all really excited," Pine continued. "What we enjoy about it is that we have a laugh. We want to make sure that that's still embedded in there, so to have Simon writing it is the perfect fit."
"Star Trek 3" is slated to open in theaters on July 8, 2016.
