'Star Trek: Discovery' Spoilers: On Lt. Stamets' Relationship and Lt. Ash Tyler's Real identity

"Star Trek: Discovery" premiered last Sept. 24, and so far, the fans of the universe have a lot of good things to say about the series created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtman for CBS All Access. "Star Trek: Discovery" season 1, episode 5 titled, "Choose Your Pain" just recently aired, and there a lot of things that fans would like to talk about. Fortunately, actor Anthony Rapp, who portrays Lt. Stamets, has a few things to say about it.

Rapp's character caught the attention of fans all over the globe after it was revealed that Stamets is the first openly gay character in the "Star Trek" universe. He is in a committed relationship with Dr. Culber (Wilson Cruz).

"The fan response has been incredibly supportive, the huge bulk of it. But the internet is a funny place," Rapp said, in an interview with IndieWire. "There are some people who were like, they used the line, 'It's ramming this down our throats.' Well, why don't you see how we do it before you make that declaration? Because if you think that presenting two people who are in a relationship is in and of itself 'ramming something down your throat,' then I think that says more about you than it does about us."

Furthermore, Rapp emphasized that he is honored to bring life to the portrayal of such a character as he believes that it is one side of the human complexity that is underrepresented in the universe.

Meanwhile, fans are speculating that Lt. Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif) might not be who he says he is. Captain Lorca (Jason Isaacs) may be on to something when he asked him how he survived the Klingon torture, to which Ash responded in the most cryptic way possible. Because of this, fans are convinced that he might be a Klingon spy. As to what is the truth, fans will have to wait and see.

"Star Trek: Discovery" airs Sundays on CBS All Access at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
