'Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi' News, Release Date: Here's Why Luke Skywalker Can't Be Rey's Father, According to Fans

It has been more than a year since Rey (Daisy Ridley) was introduced in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," but it looks like the debate about her parents will not stop anytime soon. While some fans are positive that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is her father, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" suggests that Ridley's character might actually be related to Skywalker, but not as his daughter.

One of the emerging fan theories on Reddit claims that the Jedi Master can't possibly be Rey's father since it was Skywalker who killed Rey's parents. According to the theory, it was Skywalker who wiped the entire galaxy of any final trace of the Force. As he did that, he came across a cult from a distant planet which followed the dark side of the Force, and one of the members of that cult was Rey.

Since he felt emotionally attached to Rey, the Jedi saved her from the cult. However, when her parents caught him in the act of saving the child, Skywalker was forced to murder them.

Some speculate that the reason Skywalker killed Rey's parents was due to their affiliation with the shadowy organization known as the Knights of Ren. One theory said, "Rey's mother fell in love with Luke, or both of Rey's parents [were] Knights of Ren who Luke had to kill."

The theory that Skywalker was the one who killed Rey's parents contradicts theories claiming that he is Rey's long-lost father. After "Star Wars 7," many fans were convinced that the Jedi had already found his daughter in the female scavenger; however, another recent theory also claims that Rey is not his daughter but Skywalker's clone from the failed Force experiment of Snoke (Andy Serkis).

Since the truth about Rey's parents has not been revealed yet, fans can only speculate for now. However, it won't be too long until fans finally know the truth as according to "Star Wars 9" director Colin Trevorrow, the big reveal will come soon and when it does, fans will find it "profoundly satisfying."

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" hits theaters on Dec. 15.
