Star Wars Battlefront 3 Release Date: Won't Tie in Directly With 'Episode VII' Movie
Star Wars Battlefront 3 is slated to hit the shelves sometime in the last quarter of 2015 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, according to according to reports.
The third main entry to the Star Wars: Battlefront series, SW:BF III is reported to not be entirely tied-up to the upcoming sequel of LucasFilm's epic space opera film "Star Wars: Episode VII" that is directed by J.J. Abrams and is heard to have done its principal photography in Abu Dhabi last May 16 of this year.
Patrick Soderland, the Electronic Arts Executive Vice President, said that the company that earned the exclusive rights to develop the adaptation games.
"What we're building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars Universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made," he explained. "Obviously, there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie."
"I wouldn't say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the new movie but I wouldn't say that we are directly tied to it," the VP clarified.
Meanwhile, EA's subsidiary Digital Illusions CE (DICE) confirmed that SW: BF 3 is built with the Frostbite 3 engine. Following the E3 2014 convention, updates came out that the game will feature planet Hoth and the moon Endor as playable maps.
"A match made in heaven," Soderland commended how the staff at Dice eagerly wanted to do the project with the simple reasons that the movie and culture related to the lore "has a very special place in their hearts."
