'Star Wars' Han Solo Film: 'Rogue One' Director Gareth Edwards Talks Han Solo Spin-off

Disney and Lucasfilm are doing a good job of keeping details on the upcoming "Star Wars" Han Solo film under wraps. However, a new piece of information, albeit small, has just been revealed, thanks to "Rogue One" director Gareth Edwards.

While speaking to Empire Magazine at the Empire Film Awards recently (via /Film), Edwards revealed that the "Star Wars" Han Solo standalone film will be "a completely different film to what we did."

Edwards continued to explain that the Han Solo spin-off is a much more difficult challenge than "Rogue One." He also gave his praise to the directors of the upcoming film, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who are known for their work on "21 Jump Street" and "The Lego Movie."

Not a lot has been said about the "Star Wars" Han Solo standalone film--and even some of the characters that cast members will be playing have been kept secret. Woody Harrelson, though, already revealed that he will be portraying Han's mentor, Garris Shrike, who has a criminal past. He recently spoke to USA Today about his character.

"I wouldn't know who to compare him to necessarily," he said, although he did reveal that the Millenium Falcon is not as spacious as it seems. It can be recalled that the first cast photo that was released featured them posing inside the space vehicle.

Harrelson also praised Alden Ehrenreich, who is portraying the young Han Solo. Ehrenreich certainly has some big shoes to fill, but Harrelson thinks he will do a fine job. Joining Ehrenreich and Harrelson are Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Michael K. Williams. Donald Glover has also been tapped to play a young Lando Calrissian.

The hype surrounding the new spin-off is understandably high, with expectations soaring after the success of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." However, if "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams is to be believed, then fans have nothing to worry about. He previously commended the script and the cast.

The "Star Wars" Han Solo standalone film will premiere in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018.
