'Star Wars Rebels' Season 4: Grim Fate for Mandalorians

Things are about to get far darker in "Star Wars Rebels" season 4, at least based on the first image from the highly anticipated new season of the hit animated series.

"Star Wars Rebels" story writer and editor Steven Melching shared on Twitter a still from the show's small screen return, which spells big trouble for the Mandalorians.

The "Star Wars Rebels" season 4 image shows a bunch of scorched Mandalorian helmets lying on the ground — the place engulfed by an ambience of war.

There is smoke in the background, indicating that warfare has swept the lands and that the people of Mandalore did not stand a chance.

The Mandalorians were part of the action in the "Star Wars Rebels" season 3 finale as Sabine and the others make their final bid to escape the clutches of Thrawn and the Empire.

From the looks of it, things did not end well from some of the folks from Mandalore and fans will learn more of their true fate in "Star Wars Rebels" season 4.

In fact, executive producer Dave Filoni teased that the new season will explore Sabine's home planet, which was heavily featured in "Star Wars: Clone Wars."

"The longer we've gone with this series, the more it just has occurred to me that Rebels really is, in a lot of ways, going to finish Clone Wars," Feloni revealed at the Rebels Recon series on YouTube.

"It's going to give us an ending for so many things that I didn't get to finish. That was never intentional, that was never the goal. But it's kind of worked out that way. Some of these characters have come into it, and I think that's a good thing in a way, that they're kind of a partnered series, while exactly explicitly connected, there is a shared story path for many characters in it, which I think is a good thing," he went on to say.

Thankfully, new information will also be revealed about "Star Wars Rebels" season 4 as early as this month as the animated series will be presented to some degree in the upcoming Star Wars Celebration.

Executive producer Dave Filoni and other special guests will be at the biggest convention for the franchise to show a sneak peek of "Star Wars Rebels" season 4.
