Stephen Curry 'Lost Mouthpiece' Resurfaced with $3,000 Price Tag; Dwyane Wade, Julius Irving and Larry Bird Memorabilia in Auction

A die-hard basketball fan pays a whooping $3,000 for Stephen Curry's mouthpiece in an auction. The three-point scorer of all time is frequently shown on TV while chewing his mouthpiece. The mannerism seems to make the sale a lot easier.

The 'Golden Mouthpiece'

SCP Auctions president Dan Imler said that he expects at least five grand for Curry's mouthpiece. However, 2 thousand less is not a bad sale considering the authenticity and story behind the object. Curry lost the mouthpiece during a roadshow last year and a fan found it. It has Golden State Warriors logo and Curry's name in it. The carrying case also has the two-time MVP's name printed.

Basketball Memorabilia

Adding to the active NBA memorabilia is a championship ring owned by Dwyane Wade. It is up for grabs at $9,418.

Other basketball-related items also with SCP include Wilt Chamberlain memorabilia. These items listed are headband, warm-up, game program and tickets. Chamberlain's warm-up sold for $55,000. It was the most expensive among his collectibles.

NBA Hall of Famers Julius Irving and Larry Bird also have items added to the auction. Irving's handwritten speech was sold for $10,000. The said speech outlines the acceptance event for Irving's 1981 MVP award. Larry Bird, meanwhile, has a warm-up that sells at $25,000.

SCP proves that basketball memorabilia can also sell at huge prices in auctions. The catch-up is due to comparison that bulk of the most expensive items are usually from baseball legends. Although the second most expensive sports item of all time is basketball inventor James Naismith's draft of basketball rules. The item is valued for $4,338,500.

Most Expensive List

Another non-basketball nor baseball item that sells for a fortune is Muhammad Ali's boxing gloves. Ali fought several high-profile heavyweights in the 60's but only one glove surfaced in the market. Floyd Patterson versus Muhammad Ali in 1965 may not be that well known but the gloves used by "the greatest" sells for a million dollar.

Meanwhile, for fans who want to know what the most expensive sports memorabilia is out there, it's simply Babe Ruth. A New York Yankees jersey known to be the oldest worn by Ruth surfaced in 2012. The fragile gray fabric dates back to 1920 during the Sultan of Swat's prime. The current value of this Ruth memorabilia if adjusted to inflation rate will easily climb at $4.5 million cold cash.
