Sue Simmons to Be Replaced by 28-Year-Old in Mini Skirt? Network Accused of Being Sexist

Sue Simmons has been a New York City news anchor for nearly 32 years. News that she will be let go in June has outraged some, who question why she has gotten the axe when her long-time co-anchor received another three years.

Sue Simmons has been the lead anchor at WNBC on channel four in New York City for more than three decades. According to the New York Post, Simmons' contract will be up in June and the network has no plans to renew it. Simmons and co-anchor Chuck Scarborough are a news duo that has long outlasted any other anchor team.

Simmons is currently the highest paid news anchor woman at a local station, in the nation.

"We have tremendous respect and admiration for Sue Simmons. For decades, Sue has been a critical part of New York's longest tenured anchor team in the city and has more than earned her iconic status," spokesperson Dawn Rowan told The Hollywood Reporter.

However despite the gracious remarks, some have questioned why Simmons has been let go, when her co-anchor's contract was renewed. "This is what happens when a woman gets older," mobay90 wrote on the New York Times blog.

"She'll be replaced by a 28 year old in a mini skirt who stands behind a podium and uses an ipod all through the broadcast," demisfine said on Huffington Post.

"Exactly. Both her and Joe are 68 years old but they are keeping him and not her. Its Ok for men to age not women, I guess," LINY01 added.

Gemini68 also attested to the unfairness. "I was thinking the same thing. They let her go but are keeping him for another 3 years. He'll be 71 by that time."

Simmons and Scarborough are both 68, and although Simmons' contract will not be renewed the New York Post has confirmed that Scarborough's contract has been renewed for another three years.
