'Suicide Squad' Cast News: Jai Courtney Talks Film and Director

If the "Divergent" actor Jai Courtney is to be asked, the upcoming superhero blockbuster "Suicide Squad" won't be like any other comic book movie that fans will ever see.

Directed by "Fury" helmer David Ayer, the forthcoming picture is based on the DC Comics series of the same name featuring a band of incarcerated supervillains who now works for the United States government in exchange for a lowered prison sentences.

The 29-year-old actor strongly believes that Ayer is going to pull off more than what is expected of the adaptation.

"Ayer was really the major point of attraction for me with this," Jai told MTV News. "I remember saying, quite confidently, that there's no way in hell I'd do a comic book movie. I'm like, 'Man, it's tired, it's done, like, we're so saturated in it right now, who cares,' all this stuff–'I don't go and see them.' Two weeks later they're like, 'David Ayer wants to Skype,' and I'm like, 'Anything you want, baby.'"

"It's David Ayer, man, he's not going to phone it in. It won't be like a comic book movie we've seen before," the "Terminator Genisys" star went on to say.

Courtney is slated to portray Captain Boomerang. To better play the part of the Australian thug, IGN reported that the actor has undergone serious physical trainings.

"I've been training for three months in different martial arts," he told Variety. "As you can imagine for that superhero world, the athletic expectations are rather high."

Aside from Courtney, "Suicide Squad" will feature the acts of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Joel Kinnaman, and Cara Delevingne.

The title is slated to open in theaters this August 2016.
