'Suicide Squad' news, cast, spoilers: Margot Robbie's thoughts on Jared Leto's Joker performance

"Suicide Squad" is probably one of the most-anticipated DC films in the coming year. Many feel that an antihero film is actually a breath of fresh air at this point when we are bombarded by endless superhero films. One of the characters everyone is looking forward to in seeing is The Joker, played by Jared Leto.

When the trailer leaked, Leto had gotten a lot of criticism for his portrayal for the iconic villain. Many thought that it was a little too in-your-face, with his tattoos and teeth grills, a clear opposite of Heath Ledger's Joker in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight." However, Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn in the movie talks about her impression of Leto's Joker.

Apparently, according to Screenrant, the Oscar-winning actor had chosen to use his method of acting in preparing for the role. This means he has embodied the Joker whether the camera was on him or not. Robbie had to work closely with the actor, especially since the Joker is crucial to the history of her character. The 25-year-old shares with NY Daily News, "At first it was kind of confronting (to be up close) but now I'm so used to it, I think if I ever saw him out of makeup now I would be really confused. Actually, I saw him out of makeup once and I was actually petrified of him. I was too scared to go up and didn't know who that person was, and when he got back into his makeup I was far more comfortable."

Although criticisms have initially flooded Leto, supporters are now voicing out their opinions, saying that it would be time to move on from Ledger and Leto is clearly a more modern version of the character. With the comics having many interpretations of the sinister character, it goes the same for movies. People who believe in Leto's ability to pull this off would be because of the way he delivers his lines with conviction.

Moviegoers will have to wait if Leto does pull off a stellar performance after Ledger when Suicide Squad hits theatres on Aug. 5, 2016.
