'Terminator' sequels put on hold indefinitely
It may take some before fans will be able to see another "Terminator" movie on the big screen again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount studios has arrived at a decision to put on hold the plans for a "cinematic universe" based on the sci-fi saga, which first came in 1984 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The summer film "Terminator: Genisys" reportedly did not do so well at the domestic box office. The Guardian detailed that the movie so far gained more than $440 million worldwide after a $112 haul in China. And although its performance in international markets proved mightily that the series can still go on, the people behind it believe otherwise and have put any future "Terminator" sequels on hold indefinitely. A total of only $89 million in the US and a $150 million production budget still indicates a loss of money.
Does this mean that people will no longer see another T-800 being sent to save the world? Slash Film notes that a sequel may not totally be dead just yet. It's just that Paramount is not in a hurry to create "Terminator 6" and "Terminator 7," which have been initially slated to come in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Also, the rights to the franchise will be returned to James Cameron in 2019 so it may be possible that Paramount changes its mind and decides to do another "Terminator" movie while it still has the rights to the title.
However, it will still depend. Cameron, who oversaw the first two films of the saga, has been busy working with "'Avatar' sequels and piloting RC submarines," reports A.V. Club. There's a possibility that he might just sell the rights to another studio. So as for now, fans will just have to say "Hasta la vista baby" to the "Terminator" movie.
