Terrell Owens' Faith Unshaken After Seattle Seahawks Release: 'I Will Not Waiver'

August 27, 2012|10:53 am

Terrell Owens may have been waived by the Seattle Seahawks in his first NFL shot in nearly two years, but the veteran wide receiver says his faith will not waiver.

Owens, 38-year-old wideout, let the world know that he would no longer be a member of the Seahawks on Sunday by tweeting a message thanking the organization.

"I'm no longer a Seahawk. I THANK the organization 4 the opportunity, I'm truly blessed beyond belief," Owens tweeted Sunday. "My FAITH is intact & will NOT waiver."

While Owens highlighted his faith, he made sure to tweet a passage of Scripture to coincide with his situation.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer 29:11," Owens tweeted on Sunday.

Fans of the wide receiver supported him on the social networking website, and commented on the Scripture that he posted. One person noted how strong the verse was that Owens shared from with over one million fans from the Bible.

"@terrellowens Such a strong verse," one fan tweeted.

Another person encouraged Owens in God.

"@terrellowens - HE has big plans...just be faithful and prepared...Have a wonderful Sunday," the person tweeted.

While details are still emerging about the Seahawks choosing to waive Owens, ESPN reports that NFL teams must cut their rosters from 90 players to 75 by 4 p.m. ET on Monday. Although Owens' first stint in the NFL since 2010 included two preseason games with the Seahawks, he only caught two passes in total. His two preseason receptions included a 40-yard catch and a one-yard reception.

Still, fans supported Owens continuing his career in the NFL.

"@terrellowens it's all good man you will find another team I have faith in you dawg," one fan tweeted.

Owens seemed just as faithful in the continuation of his NFL career before the Seahawks signed him on Aug 6.

While the wideout suffered an injury during his 2010 season with the Cincinnati Bengals that resulted in him undergoing knee surgery, he was not picked up by an NFL team last season. However, Owens has been vocal about being confident in God's plans to bring him back to the NFL since his injury.

"I feel confident God has put me in a situation to be here today to show people that with hard work you can come back from anything," Owens told ESPN last October.
