Texas' $26 Hotdog Takes on 8-Pound Strasburger

The Texas Rangers will be offering a massive, 1-pound hotdog for fans this baseball season. The monster dog will have competition for most extravagant meal at a baseball stadium, with the Washington Nationals offering an 8-pound hamburger at their own stadium.

The dog is "a Coney Island-style wiener that will be topped with shredded cheese, chili and sautéed onions," according to the Rangers Ballpark chef Cristobal Vasquez. Right now the dog has no name, but some suggestions include the "Champion Dog" and "Broomstick."

The burger offered by the Washington Nationals is named the Strasburger and weighs in at a hefty eight pounds.

"The burger, made of a combination of ground brisket, chuck, and short ribs … is served on a large burger bun with our secret sauce, American cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sliced red onions, pickle chips, and served with a cone basket of fresh cut fries," according to the press release.

Both the burger and hot dog are expected to be a shared meal and will be sold as such, with fries and a pitcher of soda. But fans are uncertain whether they will do as well for the parks as more and more people become aware of the health risks and decide to eat healthier foods.

The Strasburger announcement came on the heels of a study that proved that red meat could take years from one's life.

"A diet high in red and processed meats deluges the body with inflammatory compounds like saturated fat and nitrates," Samantha Heller, dietician and nutritionist at the Center for Cancer Care in Connecticut announced in a press release.

"We get heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other chronic diseases. There are numerous studies showing a link between eating red and processed meat and chronic diseases and death," she explained.
