Texas Man Returns $7,000 He Found Lying on Street

An employee of the city of Alvin, Texas, found a bag carrying over $7,000 on the side of a road, but instead of keeping the money he made sure it reached the person it belonged to.

"We were just heading out on our daily routine and I saw a bag lying on the side of the road and saw that it was a money bag," said Danny DeLaRosa, who works for the city cleaning up streets, according to Houston's KPRC-TV. "I just stopped and picked it up."

DeLaRosa said he was "stunned" to see thousands of dollars in the bag. But he wasn't tempted to keep the money. It belonged to the owner of a doughnut shop in Friendswood who had put the bag on his car and drove off.

DeLaRosa handed the bag to his boss, Andre Roberts, who then turned it over to the doughnut shop owner. "He (the owner of the doughnut shop) was shocked that someone was still honest," Roberts said. "He was happy – very happy."

DeLaRosa said his honor was more precious for him than the money. "My wife … she couldn't believe it. She was happy for me."

The story drew many responses by readers. "If Danny has kids this example will be passed on to them," said one reader. "You are the man Danny!! Great example to set in this day and age! May good things come to you!" said another.
