'The Affair' Season 4 Spoilers: Will Alison Still Fight for Daughter's Custody?

Alison (Ruth Wilson) may be okay with not getting shared custody of her daughter in the upcoming season of "The Affair."

Recent spoilers indicate that Alison's wild ways will kick in once again in the new installment, making all of her efforts to reunite her family in vain. It has also been teased that she will meet a new man and she will be involved in another messy affair with him. However, last season, Alison was bent on convincing Cole (Joshua Jackson) to return to her. She also worked hard to show the court that she was more than capable of raising little Joanie. Alison was determined to make her family complete again, but she may soon forget her resolve after meeting Ben (to be played by Ramon Rodriguez).

Ben was described as a Marine veteran who was now with the Veterans Health Administration. He and Alison will cross paths as she is pursuing a new job as a grief counselor. Ben will allegedly do everything to make her fall in love with him, and speculations are rife that Cole will get his heart broken again the moment Alison succumbs to the call of the flesh and starts an affair with the ex-Marine. Before season 3 ended, it was apparent that Cole was about to pick Alison over Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno). It now looks like he has made a huge mistake in opening his heart to his ex-wife again.

Fans of the series are looking forward to the kind of storyline the new season will have. In a November interview with TV Guide, series creator Sarah Treem said that season 3 was all about accepting mistakes and standing up for it. For instance, Noah (Dominic West) previously admitted that he accidentally killed Scotty (Colin Donnell) to direct the investigation away from Alison and Helen (Maura Tierney). It was his way of apologizing for the things he did in the past. From how it looks, the fourth installment will be about making mistakes and regretting them all over again.

"I think that Season 3 is about accountability. I would say that Season 1 was 'The Affair' and Season 2 was 'The Crisis After the Affair.' Before it gets better, it gets worse. Season 3 is basically about the characters taking stock of what's happened and figuring out how they themselves are accountable. I personally think that it's a pretty redemptive season, but I have a dark aesthetic. It's definitely not going to be sunshine and rainbows, but its redemptive for The Affair," Treem said in the TV Guide interview.

"The Affair" is rumored to return in 2018 for its fourth season.
