'The Bible' Miniseries Film Adaptation 'Son of God' to Be Released Feb. 2014

Producers from the "The Bible" miniseries recently announced that the series' film adaptation, "Son of God," will be released in theaters nationwide in February 28, 2014, and will feature the detailed account of Jesus' life including his humble birth and teachings up until his resurrection.

The major motion picture, slated to be released by 20th Century Fox, includes an action-packed storyline, powerful performances and "dazzling" visual effects. The movie will also take selections from the miniseries along with never-before-seen footage for the anticipated two-hour-long film.

"We are very excited to be working with Twentieth Century Fox to release 'Son of God' as a major motion picture," said Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, producers of "The Bible," in a statement. "We responded to an overwhelming demand for the greatest story ever told to be seen as a shared experience on the big screen. The result is a beautiful stand-alone movie. It's the story of Jesus for a whole new generation."

According to producers Downey and Burnett, their focus with the project, from its inception, was to create an experience that could be embraced by everyone across all denomination as well as non-Christians.

"I would recommend to individuals, and particularly to families, this wonderful story of the Son of God in order to be inspired all over again with the story of God's love for us," said Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington D.C. "It is a joy to watch this film bring alive the pages of the Gospel to help us see what those who lived at the time of Jesus experienced."

In addition, Pastor Rick Warren praised the film saying he had seen most films about the life of Jesus produced within the past 50 years, however, the anticipated project "stands alone, in a class by itself."

"It is a powerful and poignant movie, the best Jesus movie I have ever seen...I know it will be a blessing to millions when it opens all across America," said Warren in a statement.

The Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, also added, "'Son of God' fills the big screen with two catalytic elements: the passion of the cross and the purpose of the empty tomb, forgiveness and eternal life. 'Son of God' is not just a production worth watching, it is a gift worth experiencing."

Downey and Burnett produced the wildly successful miniseries "The Bible" that was broadcasted by The History Channel last March. The series also ranked number one on cable television and sold 1 million units across Blu-ray, DVD and DigitalHD platforms.
