According to Empire, Olivia Colman will be portraying Queen Anne, the last monarch of the House of Stuarts, who ruled between 1702 and 1714. She ruled England, Scotland (which united to become Great Britain) and Ireland, but died childless despite multiple pregnancies.

Weisz will play Sarah, the Duchess of Marlborough and one of the queen's closes confidents. Stone, on the other hand, will portray Abigail Masham, Sarah's poor, distant relative who is given a position at court to tend to the Queen. Her arrival would result in a shifting balance of power among the kingdom's courtiers.

Hoult has recently wrapped up production on the film "The Current War" in which he portrays Nikola Tesla opposite Benedict Cumberbatch. He also plays J.D. Salinger in "Rebel in the Rye" and appeared in the movie "Collide." He will also be seen in "Watership Down," a miniseries based on the 1972 novel by Richard Adams, as the voice of Fiver.

Weisz will be seen next in the film "The Mercy" with Colin Firth and David Thewlis, and in "Disobedience" with Rachel McAdams. Stone, on the other hand, recently won the Oscar for Best Actress for her work in "La La Land."

"The Favourite" will be produced by Scarlet Film's Ceci Dempsey, Elemental Pictures' Ed Guiney and Lee Magiday. The film has no official release date yet.
