'The Flash' Season 2 Casting Rumors, News: Det. Joe West Gets a New Partner, Robbie Amell Talks Firestorm's Powers

Things are just about to get more exciting in the next season of The CW's hit superhero TV drama series "The Flash."

Comicbook.com revealed a slew of audition tapes pointing out to scenes where Det. Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) interacts with a new character named Patty, which is short for Patty Spivot.

The clips, which are password protected, hinted Spivot's involvement in the new season as Joe's new partner and taking hints from the source materials, could also be a new love interest for Barry Allen/The Flash (Grant Gustin).

The first video, as described by the publication, shows Patty assuring Joe that even though she's new with these so-called metahumans issue, she can be trusted in keeping the secret. The next clip features her "gushing" to Barry about the details on some forensics report.

Meanwhile, Den of Geek shared another update, this time pointing out to Robbie Amell's Firestorm.

The superhero, which is the name assumed by two transmuted men, Ronnie Raymond (Amell) and Martin Stein (Victor Garber), also possesses the ability to transmute matter into other forms. Unfortunately, the first season failed to showcase it.

Amell revealed that they did have a scene in Season 1 where the character used its key abilities.

"There's a scene where Danielle [Panabaker]'s character is checking my temperature and giving me the once-over. I call Victor in the room and we merge, and I turn her thermometer into a daffodil. It was just like a really nice, sweet way of showing … because she's asking if we're going to be OK, and I'm like, 'Actually, we're getting pretty good at this whole Firestorm thing,'" he explained. "And we merge without even missing a beat and turn that into a flower. It was a nice moment, but ultimately it just didn't hold any bearing on the plot."

He did, however, assured that season 2 will "reintroduce" Firestorm's ability of "matter manipulation."

"The Flash" Season 2 is slated to premiere on its usual timeslot in The CW this October.
