'The Flash' Season 2 Plot News, Spoilers: EP Teases Patty's Return; Barry's Hunt For Zoom

In last Tuesday's episode of "The Flash," Barry Allen/The Flash (Grant Gustin) had to make two heartbreaking choices. First, he once again had the opportunity to save his mother, this time by locking Eobard Thawne/The Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher) at the particle accelerator. But after realizing that doing so would cause a rupture in the timeline that would then kill Cisco Ramon/Vibe (Carlos Valdes), Barry decided to save Cisco instead of preventing his mother's murder. In the episode, titled "The Reverse-Flash Returns," Barry also chose to let Patty leave instead of telling her about his secret identity.

"The Flash" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently talked to The Hollywood Reporter about "The Reverse-Flash Returns" and the rest of Season 2. When asked whether or not the last episode marked Patty's "official goodbye" from the series, Kreisberg said, "We love working with Shantel and we'll always hope that we get to see her again in the future."

"But in the immediate future, this is her goodbye," he revealed, adding, "We very consciously did not kill her and we all loved working with her and how much the audience liked her, so I wouldn't be surprised if we haven't seen the last of Patty Spivot."

As for how Barry Allen/The Flash will be dealing with choosing to save Cisco over his mother, the "Flash" boss said: "It's only going to reinforce his desire to get Zoom." According to Kreisberg, because time won't let Barry get the Reverse-Flash, he will instead be hell-bent on finding and taking on Zoom.

And now that Barry has had the opportunity to save his mother twice, but chose a different outcome each time, fans are left wondering if there is actually anything that Barry would be willing to sacrifice to prevent his mother's murder. In the interview, Kreisberg admitted that this is something that he and the writers find interesting. According to the "Flash" showrunner, Barry has been trying very hard to be happy, but that happiness, whether in the form of his job or Patty, has continued to evade him. When given the opportunity to save his mother, something that would have undoubtedly given him happiness, he chose not to take it. Granted, knowing that the choice would have led to Cisco's death would have put a bit of a damper on that happiness; still, will Barry ever get his happy ending?

"The question of what will it take to make Barry happy will still hang around and it will be answered by the end of the year," Kreisberg revealed.
