'The Following' Season 2 Spoilers: 'The Hero Gets A Little Success' Says Bacon

"The Following" is back on Fox with the latest installment of season two, entitled "Sacrifice."

While the second season of the thriller series is well underway, fans are anxious to know what will happen to Ryan Hardy, portrayed by Kevin Bacon. Fortunately, Bacon revealed insight when discussing the series creator Kevin Williamson's reflections on season one. In creating the second season of the show, Williamson took stock in fans' reactions to Hardy's battle against Joe Carroll's reign of terror. Bacon elaborated on what the creator decided while speaking to TV Line.

"Well, a lot of the comments last year were about people wanting me to have a few more wins," Bacon explained of his former FBI agent character. "I kept getting beaten up, bad guys kept getting away from me, to the point where it got a little bit like, 'Come on.' So we've tried to give him a bit more success every once in a while, because you want the hero to have a little success."

Nevertheless, Bacon staunchly stands by both his characters successes and failures.

"I like all the f--- ups," the actor laughingly admitted to TV Line. "But I think that for Kevin [Williamson], in terms of the overall arc of the character, [greater success] is what he really wanted to go for."

As for his character's attitude, Bacon admitted that Hardy is "a bit more emotional, if that's possible," in season two, especially following the horrific death of Claire in season one.

"[Ryan has] a lot of secrets," Bacon noted. "You think he's totally fine and has gotten past this thing, but he obviously hasn't, he's holding this stuff inside."

The actor also teased about "another level" of deception that his character is capable of, offering the cryptic spoiler: "Down the line, you think you know that he's pretending to be this person, but he actually IS this person- but the person he actually us, is ALSO kind of a pretense."

"We still have all the scares and the intensity, but there's more stuff going on character-wise," Bacon added of season two.

The synopsis of tonight's episode entitled "Sacrifice" on TV Guide reads: "The search for Lily Gray takes a turn when Max faces a new threat. Meanwhile, things aren't what they seem at the latest hideout for Joe, Emma and Mandy."

"The Following" airs on Fox Mondays at 9 p.m. EST.
