'The Fosters' Season 5 Spoilers: Are Mat and Mariana Getting Back Together?

Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) is getting a boyfriend in the second half of the current season of "The Fosters."

Executive producer Joanna Johnson told TVLine that the new installment would see Mariana opening herself again to love after her traumatic experience with her past boyfriend. When she and Mat (Jordan Rodrigues) danced during the prom in the previous episode, fans of the series want to know if there was a possibility that they will end up together. It was quite obvious that they still like each other, and according to Johnson, anything is possible.

"Mariana's gone, I think we figured out, 18 episodes without a boyfriend. So sometimes when it rains, it pours. Mariana's going to have her options open this season," the EP teased.

Meanwhile, Mariana's other ex-boyfriend, Nick (Louis Hunter), will also return in season 5B. In last season's finale, she received a mysterious text from an unknown number that claimed that he knew something about the controversy at the Anchor Beach Charter School. It turned out to be Nick. It was Nick who caused problems for Mariana when they broke up. He went crazy and held several school kids hostage. He then proceeded to stalk her even though he was on house arrest.

According to Johnson, there is no telling what Nick's motives are in contacting Mariana again. It is up to her to decide if he is baiting her or not. It will be interesting to see how Mariana will handle the new challenge.

Elsewhere, spoilers reveal that there is still hope for Brandon (David Lambert) and Grace (Meg DeLacy). In last finale, viewers of the show saw Grace's mother bent on leaving the town with her daughter. It looks like something will crop up that will prevent them from doing so. This will reportedly be a chance for Brandon to stake his claim and not let go.

"The Fosters" season 5B is expected to air next year.
