'The Grinder' Cast News, Update: 'Vacation' Star Joins Show As Dean's Old-Time Flame

The upcoming freshman season of Fox's legal comedy TV series "The Grinder" will feature a star from "Vacation" who will take on the role as Sanderson/Grinder's (Rob Lowe) old-time lover.

Citing the report from TVLine, it is said that actress Christina Applegate has signed on to appear as Kelly Summers, an "old high-school flame" of the show's lead character, in the series' fifth episode.

The "Married…With Children" star's "Boise-bred" character is described by the media outlet as someone who "possesses an appealing, old-fashioned vibe which Dean finds very refreshing." Kelly is somewhat a hipster kind of girl who doesn't even have a television set and prefers to be called as "more of a book girl."

Another interesting aspect of the casting pointed out by TVLine is the fact that this special appearance will reunite the two actors who both co-starred in the 2003 comedy film, "View From The Top." The gig would also be the second time that Applegate works for the network. The first was for "Married…"

For those who missed it, "The Grinder" follows the plights of Lowe's alter-ego, Dean Sanderson, who stars on a popular TV show which is also called "The Grinder" as Mitch Grinder.

Sanderson made his journey back home after his long-running scripted program got cancelled. He later found out that his own family are actually real-life lawyers running an actual law firm. His experience in the field, albeit a scripted one, made Sanderson to believe that he could be a great addition to the family's business.

Earlier casting reports, this time from Entertainment Weekly, mentioned "Entourage" star Emmanuelle Chriqui who will play the part of Addison Cross. She was described in the publication as a "fiery lawyer at Mitch's firm with whom he's having a torrid romance."

"The Grinder" is also slated to feature the acts of Fred Savage, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, William Devane, Natalie Morales, Hana Hayes, and Connor Kalopsis as members of the Sanderson clan.

The show arrives to the small screens on September 29.
