'The Originals' Season 3 Cast News: Show Taps 'Heroes' Alum For A Vampire Role; TVD Crossover Project Details Revealed
The CW's hit supernatural drama TV series "The Originals" returns this week for the second half of Season 3. Along with its comeback is the latest casting report pointing out to a newcomer that could shake things up for the characters. Meanwhile, details about the crossover episode with "The Vampire Diaries" have finally surfaced.
Earlier this week, TVLine reported that the show will be introducing "another good-looking vampire with questionable intentions to its ranks." The role happens to fall on the "Heroes" star Taylor Cole, who will recur as Sofya.
The publication described the new character as a "smart, badass vampire whose skills are highly sought after on the black market."

A "vampire for hire," viewers should expect Sofya to be in league with those who pay the highest for her talents. Could she end up with the Mikaelsons? This has yet to be revealed when the character debuts this season in Episode 16.
Meanwhile, a separate report from the media outlet divulged what appears to be the details for the recently-confirmed "The Vampire Diaries/The Originals" crossover.
Citing the statements from executive producer Julie Plec, it was revealed that the crossover's storyline was derived from Stefan [Paul Wesley] needing a place to hide temporarily.
"He's on the run. He needs to go somewhere where magic can't find him, and we realized he can go to New Orleans where there's that bar where magic doesn't work," the showrunner told TVLine.
Joseph Morgan, who plays Klaus in the series, chimed in to tease that the crossover could further delve deeper into the issue concerning the sire line and the war between all the trinity.
TVLine, meanwhile, revealed that for those who are expecting a standoff between Klaus and Stefan for the affections of Caroline (Candice Accola), they shouldn't be holding their breath.
Plec clarified that Caroline is now with Stefan and Klaus is currently preoccupied with the awful things that has been going on between him and Cami (Leah Pipes).
"The Originals" Season 3B premieres this Friday, Jan. 29, at 9 p.m. on The CW.
