The Polish Mountain Challenge – What 120 Layers of Nail Polish Coating Look Like; Gemstones and Glitter Galore

Polish Mountain may be the coolest and the most colorful nail polish and fashion craze of the year.

YouTube video blogger and nail artist Christine Rotenberg of Simply Nailogical would have never thought that her nail polish craze would go viral. The Polish Mountain challenge became an instant hit with one challenger after the other asking their friends and family to post their nail art. Christine started the craze by applying more than 100 coats which took her 12 hours to do in June 5. It may have took her twice as long to get these off too.

Challengers used hundreds of nail polish colors and coats while some even went beyond the use of nail polish and used arts and craft supplies such as glitter, fake gems and so on. Some added one coat and color on top of the other creating a polish mountain while others bedazzled their nails with amazing glittery accessories.

Eventually the hashtag #polishmountain started with Instagram users, Facebook likes and Twitter tweets growing in number. Women, and even men, couldn't wait to show their creations online and this only fed more fuel to the fire generating more participants.

More than 120 coats and still counting

If Christine's Polish Mountain challenge was an awesome feat, there wer other challengers that took the nail art craze to a whole new level.

ane_li posted on Instagram a photo of her nail polish creation with 280 coats. She said that she was completely inspired by @simplynailogical's #polishmountain video, Christine's video blog, and just had to try it herself. Her nails not only had 280 colors on it but these were cleverly shaped like mounds of polish topped with different-colored rhinestones.

"Fyi, this is not supposed to look good or anything like that, it's a challenge and just for fun." ane_li captioned her post.

Beautiful nail art

While some saw this as a weird trend, some thought that Polish Mountain was beautiful and the ultimate nail polish goal hence the hashtag #nailpolishgoals. Challengers tried neon polish, dark-colored polish and glittery nail polish to name a few to profess their love for Polish Mountain.

Acrylic Mountain

Got no nails or polish? Absolute Nails came up with the hashtag #AcrylicMountain to solve the problem with colorful and strong acrylic nail art. Challengers can choose from hundreds of glittery colors and may still add gemstones, rhinestones and glitter on their nail art. Acrylic can be formed into different shapes and sizes adding up to the Polish Mountain challenge.
