'The Purge 4' Release Date, News Details: Movie Confirmed for a July 2018 Release

The famous dystopian "Purge" franchise is coming back for a fourth installment, and it is now confirmed to be released by July 4, 2018.

In addition, James DeMonaco will still work on the franchise as its script writer, but it has been announced that he will not direct the fourth film anymore. However, he will still work closely with producers in order to choose a new director for the film.

Universal Studios and Blumhouse Productions' Jason Blum partners with Sebastien K. Lemercier, DeMonaco's long-time production partner, along with Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form as producers.

As of the moment, the fourth and upcoming "Purge" movie still has no official title yet, and casting is still going to be arranged.

Plot details are also kept under wraps for now, but DeMonaco already revealed during a previous interview with Cinema Blend that they are thinking of doing a prequel for the fourth installment.

"Now let's go back and see how the f‑‑‑ all this came about. How did this country get to a place where we were now accepting this kind of atrocity, this terrible thing, each year?" DeMonaco shared.

The summer release date coincides with America's 242nd year of independence, and comes a few months before the American midterm elections. This was purposely done due to the movie's usual political undertones that made it famous in the first place.

The latest installment, "The Purge: Election Year" grossed over $118.6 million worldwide upon its release in July 2016 - making it the highest grossing installment in the franchise.

Each "Purge" movie, however, outdoes its predecessor in sales as the first "The Purge" movie grossed $89 million worldwide, while the second installment, "The Purge: Anarchy" earned over $111.9 million in 2014.

All three films in the franchise, however, are rather commercially successful, with only $3 million to $10 million in budget per film.
