'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Premiere Date, Plot Spoilers: Promo Poster Reveals Love Triangle?

The CW has released a couple of promotional trailers in the past months for the upcoming season 6 of their supernatural drama series "The Vampire Diaries." In those teasers, it showed Elena (Nina Dobrev) having a hard time coping with the purported loss of lover Damon (Ian Somerhald) as well as with her friend Bonnie (Kat Graham).

Now, an official promo poster from TVD's Twitter account showed Elena holding on with Stefan (Paul Wesley) while Caroline (Candice Accola) was seen crawling on the ground. On the left side of the picture shows Damon and Bonnie also holding on to each other.

Caroline and Stefan have been into each other in the previous season, however, the friendship between the two might end just like that.

"Caroline isn't going to let Stefan off the hook very easily. In fact, his determination to move on and start a new life after the loss of his brother may ultimately ruin the friendship he's built with her over the years," Executive Producer Julie Plec revealed.

Set to return for its sixth season, "The Vampire Diaries" premiere episode will air Oct. 2 on 8 p.m. on The CW.

"After spending the past four months coping with the loss of Damon in an unconventional and potentially dangerous way, Elena has returned to Whitmore College for the start of sophomore year," the synopsis begins. "Unable to move on, Caroline is desperate to find a way to reverse the anti-magic spell the Travelers have put over Mystic Falls and grows frustrated when her calls to Stefan go unanswered."

"Tyler (Michael Trevino), who is human once again, has a run-in at a football tailgate that tests his ability to control his anger, while Matt (Zach Roerig) worries that Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is dealing with the loss of Bonnie (Kat Graham) in a self-destructive way," the summary continues.

"Alaric (Matt Davis), who is struggling to adjust to his new life as a vampire, finds himself in an awkward situation when he meets Jo (guest star Jodi Lyn O'Keefe), a beautiful doctor at the university hospital. Last, while everyone believes Stefan is off tracking a lead to get Damon and Bonnie back, Elena is shocked when she learns the truth of what he has really been up to," the synopsis concludes.
