'The Walking Dead' News, Update: Showrunner Scott M. Gimple Talks About Season 6 Newcomers

Fans are hankering for more updates about AMC's hit post-apocalyptic TV drama series "The Walking Dead," and its upcoming Season 6. Here's the latest we heard.

Executive producer Scott M. Gimple revealed that the next chapter is bound to see new faces drawn out from the comics. One of which is Heath, whose role will be played by Corey Hawkins.

"He's [Hawkins] terrific and I'm so excited to see him bring Heath to life," Gimple told Entertainment Weekly. "It's been fun and he dove in with both feet. He's tough and skeptical when the cameras are rolling, and then when they're off he's just like a goofy fan. He's really, really excited to be there."

The showrunner went on to reveal to the media outlet that there would be more other comic book entities that the TV-adaptation will bring to life.

"There are other people that we're going to see throughout the season from the comics, and I'm excited for people to see it, but I don't want to tell them now," he said. "I think a few minor remixes, but some direct stuff from the comic as well, as far as these characters go."

When asked further by the publication as to what will the followers should expect come Season 6, Gimple said:

"I think there's a really cool aspect to the first half of the season that serves almost as a prequel to some direct comic stuff in the second half of the season."

This goes to say that the TV show might offer some backstory which will probably be used in the upcoming editions of the source material.

"I think there's a way that Robert did some of the story that we're reaching that had a real past to it, where people are referring to some things in the past in the comic. And we're able to portray some of that backstory in some ways that you didn't get to see in the comic," Gimple said.

"The Walking Dead" Season 6 is slated to premiere this October.
