'The Witcher 3' Blood and Wine DLC Comes with Huge Area, Refined Gameplay, According to Developer

Developer CD Projekt Red recently clarified a previous comment made by one of its staff. The developer clarified that "The Witcher 3" Blood and Wine DLC offers refined gameplay and its map is huge.

Speaking to GameSpot, Michal Platkow-Gilewski, CD Projekt Red's marketing lead, says that although the game feels "more refined," it isn't necessarily "better" than the main game.

"Blood and Wine is the sum of all the experiences we gained when creating Wild Hunt, so it's definitely more refined than Wild Hunt in many regards, but that doesn't mean it's better per se," he said.

The upcoming expansion pack will feature new monsters, quests, and places of interest, according to Platkow-Gilewski. He added that the previously revealed new realm of Toussaint will rival the size of those found in the main game.

Toussaint was revealed in December, with CD Projekt Red releasing a set of images for the new region. The screenshots show a peaceful place, one that's untouched by war. However, beneath this seemingly peaceful facade, a carefree indulgent atmosphere, and knightly rituals is "an ancient, bloody secret." Toussaint will give the game's protagonist Geralt new enemies and new gear.

"I wouldn't point fingers at what's better separately, as each addition to Wild Hunt (including over 10 updates we've released so far) enriches the overall experience you get from The Witcher as a game in general," he said. "The base game with the expansions is simply better than without them."

"The Witcher 3's" Blood and Wine DLC is expected to add about 20 hours of gameplay. This is twice as many hours as the game's first add-on content, Hearts of Stone, that was released back in October 2015. CD Projekt Red had also hinted that the expansion pack will bring new characters and bring back "dearly missed" ones.

The Blood and Wine DLC is now pegged to release in the first half of the year, that is from January to June 2016. It was initially scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2016 or from January to March.
