'The X-Files' Season 11 Spoilers: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson Commemorate Show's 24th Anniversary

While the filming for the 11th season of "The X-Files" continues to be underway, the stars of the fan-favorite sci-fi drama series marked another milestone for the show as it celebrates the 24th anniversary of its premiere.

On Saturday, David Duchovny posted a throwback poster of "The X-Files" on Instagram to celebrate the show's debut on FOX on 1993. It showcased his character, FBI agent Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson's Agent Dana Scully.

Anderson, on the other hand, opted to thank Duchovny for being with her in the show over the years through a Twitter post. She shared a photo of their characters arguing in the middle of the rain, with the caption: "24 years today. Deja vu all over again. Thanks for repeatedly standing in the mud & the rain with me @davidduchovny. @thexfiles"

Duchovny reciprocated his co-star's efforts with a reply, saying that it's okay to spend time in the mud and the rain with a colleague.

The pair is currently working on the new episodes of "The X-Files" season 11, where they will reprise their iconic roles. While details about the plot of the show remains a mystery, Fox Entertainment President David Madden revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in August that the show will move forward from the events of last season.

"We start the season right up from where the season finale left off with that big helicopter and takes you right from there," the network executive stated. "You'll be launched into a very urgent adventure that has a lot to do with William — Mulder and Scully's kid. so the search for William will be a significant thread through the show. You will see the Cigarette Smoking Man [William B. Davis]. You may see The Lone Gunmen somewhere along the line. There will be other characters from the previous mythology that will be reprised," Madden said.

FOX is expected to release the new episodes of "The X-Files" season 11 in 2018.
