CBS' no. 1 daily soap opera "The Young and the Restless" will have the veteran actress Meredith Baxter to join the cast as Maureen, according to reports.
A rep from CBS said the 67-yearl-old star will be coming to Genoa City to portray a "sympathetic" yet "manipulative" character. She can be good at making people do things while all along convince them to a belief that it's their idea.
It is further speculated that the character's charisma could eventually affect Melody Thomas Scott's Nikki Newman. Nikki has long been struggling to put a stop to her drinking problems and here comes Maureen, who is deemed to be her "drinking buddy."
When not popping bottles with Nikki, "Maureen will be crossing with several key players in the Y&R canvas," a TV Guide report added.
Baxter already made a mark in the film and television entertainment history ever since her role as Elyse Keaton on "Family Ties" which was aired from 1982 to 1989. The veteran's talents are also recognized by major award giving bodies like Emmy who awarded her three times; twice for Landmark's 1970 series "Family" and the third for "A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story" (1992).
The actress recently appeared on other TV shows like "Family Guy," "'The Neighbors," "Glee" and "Switched at Birth."
December 2011, her memoir entitled "Untied" was published garnering a lot of positive reviews for its message about "alcoholism, marital traps, and major personal transformation."
The iconic actor will make its appearance in "The Young and the Restless" starting Sept. 8 and will continue to do so throughout the fall.
