'This is Us' Season 2 News: There's More to Jack's Death Than the House Fire

Now that fans of "This is Us" have finally learned, or at least have a clue, how Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) died, the cast and show creator hint that there are more stories to it scattered in season 2.

The dreaded cliffhanger in "This is Us" season 1 was how Jack and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) parted ways. In the successful season 2 premiere of "This is Us," fans of the family drama have gotten some of the answers they needed.

At one point in the premiere episode, Rebecca was seen parked outside their house. However, it was burned down and completely covered in soot. This then implied to the viewers that the house fire was likely the cause of Jack's death.

Series creator Dan Fogelman hinted though that the house fire was not the answer to everything. In fact, he implied in an interview with Variety that the incident was just one part of the entire story of how Jack died.

Fogelman said: "They don't know the details. Did he die in the fire? Did he get out of the fire? But we're not misdirecting. He didn't die four years later."

"We flash forward to the day Jack died, and what you're seeing there is the day and night and little pieces that come into play," the showrunner added. "So you're seeing a lot of things that will reveal themselves in the course of the season."

While it has been established that the house fire did not hold the answer to every question built in season 1, Ventimiglia said the revelation somehow helps fans and even compared it to "a pressure valve release for a little bit."

On the other hand, teasers for the upcoming third episode of "This is Us" season 2 – which is titled "Déjà vu" – showed Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) adding another foster daughter to their family.

However, the short trailer hinted that the idea of having another daughter was mostly Beth's and Randall was only told about it when the young girl was on her way to their home. Even so, the new member of their family seems to have a tragic past that the couple will need to deal with now.

"This is Us" season 2 airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
