'Tom Clancy's The Division' Scheduled for 2015, Game is a Shooter RPG

Ubisoft's Massive Multiplayer Online Third-Person Shooter game, "Tom Clancy's The Division" still has no exact release date, with only 2015 as a hint to players anticipating the game's release. Game developers have apparently decided not to reveal too much information about the game until it is ready to prevent any outworldly expectations.

Art director Rodrigo Cortes has spoken to IGN about the game's elusive release date and says they want to deliver a good game. "We want to show gamers the game they will end up playing. We don't want to sell a fantasy," Cortes said.

"We've been persistent with our messaging about high targets and benchmarks, and we want to deliver that. Then it's about making sure people get the game we're promising so they don't think it's something else," he adds.

It would seem that Ubisoft isn't aiming for "The Division" to be just another third-person shooter co-op game for the next-gen consoles. The development team is looking to aim for the game to be a full-fledged role-playing game with shooter elements.

"For us, one of the biggest challenges is figuring out how to tell people how much of an RPG it is. It has shooting, and is shooter-like. If you look at it, that's the whole point because we want it to be very immersive," Cortes explains.

"But it's not a shooter with some RPG stats tacked on. It's actually a proper RPG from the very beginning. There's deep progression when it comes to loot, gear, and levels and you'll be able to customize every skill, do exactly what you want, and choose roles," he adds. "So that's probably the biggest communication challenge. We want to make clear to everyone that it's an RPG."
