Tony Parker Injury Update: Hamstring Strain 'Not Bad,' Returning Tonight?

Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs is coping with an injury to his left hamstring that may see him off the court for some time.

The star point guard sustained the injury in Game 5 of the Spurs' second-round NBA playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, May 14.

"Injury report: Tony Parker tightness in his left hamstring," the official Twitter handle for the Spurs wrote on Wednesday. "Uncertain if he will return to tonight's game."

The injury took Parker out of Wednesday's game for the rest of the night. One day later, the Spurs said that Parker underwent an MRI in San Antonio which revealed a Grade 1 left hamstring strain.

"He is listed as day-to-day," the NBA team added.

On Friday, NBA fans everywhere are wondering if Parker will be able to play in Game 6. Buck Harvey of San Antonio Express-News tweeted, "From those who know: Parker hamstring 'not bad.' Available for Game 6? 'We'd have him ready.' #spurs."

However, Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News said that Parker would not jeopardize his health and make a return to the court unless absolutely necessary.

"#spurs not saying @tonyparker won't return but hammy not something you take chances with," he wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, reports do not indicate that Parker's injury is serious, and it appears as though the athlete was simply precautionary in leaving Wednesday's game. The Spurs' next round includes matches against the OKC Thunder and the LA Clippers, and despite their talented back up point guard Patty Mills, many basketball critics agree that the Spurs will need Parker in order to win the Finals.

Parker has to weigh risk even more carefully today- the NBA star and his fiancée Axelle Francine welcomed their first child, a son, on April 30.

Parker, 31, and the French journalist named their newborn son Josh, according to the San Antonio Express-News. The proud new parents, which have been dating since 2011, first announced that they were expecting back in October.

"Hey just wanted to say that I'm very happy today," the NBA star posted to Twitter at the time. "Me and my future Wife going to have a Baby Boy!!!!"
