Top Gun 2 Release Date: Premiere Date Still Unknown But Sequel Now a 'Top Priority'

"Top Gun 2" is a priority for studio executives, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise, according to reports.

Jerry Bruckheimer's interest in making the sequel hasn't been thwarted despite the undesirable events like the first film's director, Tony Scott, committing suicide in 2012. Bruckheimer stated in an interview that he "hasn't given up" the thought of doing it. In fact, actors Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer are in the same vein with him.

"We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer," Bruckheimer, 70, told the Huffington Post.

In a report by KPopstarz, it has been confirmed that the initial plans of continuing Maverick's adventures in the skies are now "top priority."

Bruckheimer indicated that the latest installment would focus on the aspect concerning modern aerial warfare.

"The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they're not obsolete. They're here to stay. It's just getting to the starting place. Fortunately for Tom, he's very busy, so you have to find a slot he can fit into and get a budget that Paramount feels they can make the picture," he said.

Tom Cruise could reprise his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a United States Naval Aviator Lieutenant. Further details including release dates and castings are still unknown.

Roughly a year ago, The New York Times published an article that said executives from Paramount Pictures had given up on the idea of making a sequel for one of the most beloved 1980s action films "Top Gun." Part of the reason for the report could have been the death of the film's director, Tony Scott, who committed suicide in Los Angeles.
