Leafs center Nazem Kadri spoke about the competition between the teams as a motivating factor in this game. He told The Canadian Press via NHL.com: "Obviously Detroit being so close to us (in the standings) it definitely makes things a little more competitive."

The Red Wings are surprisingly doing badly at home, and on home ice they are just 6-16. So they might enjoy a temporary switch from the Joe Louis Arena to Michigan Stadium.
