Toyota 2017 Prius Prime Unveiled; Upgrades Include 22 Miles Electric Range, 8.8-KWh Battery, LED Lights

A new Toyota plug-in hybrid will soon be driving in the streets as the Japanese automotive manufacturer unveiled already the 2017 Prius Prime. According to a report by Nasdaq, Toyota presented the new vehicle during the New York auto show and it's deemed to be more efficient compared to the company's famous Prius hatchback.

Car and Driver reported that the Prius Prime is equipped with the latest in efficiency, safety and convenience bonuses to make certain that the new car will maintain its first-class reputation. As for the upgrades and changes, the new vehicle measures 2.4 inches longer and 0.6 inch wider compared to its predecessor. It has also been given a frontal makeover to display a different look from its non-plug-in predecessor.

Moreover, the new Prius Prime is installed with an 8.8-KWh lithium-ion battery which replaces the former 4.4-KWh battery. This basically gives the car an electric-only range of 22 miles. Hybrid Cars detailed that Toyota noted that 22 miles is sufficient to accommodate 51 percent of average daily driving needs. The carmaker also claims that the 2017 model is able to offer an efficiency rating of 120 MPGe—which apparently makes it the most efficient plug-in hybrid yet.

For its design, the Prius Prime is said to come with quad LED lights and LED rear combination lamps. The interior is also said to be more spacious, although it's noted that the middle rear seating position is no longer there. Toyota did mention that they were able to save in the weight by putting armrests and cup holders to make the new car a four-seater.

Design and Trend also detailed that the new automobile includes a bigger 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is an enhancement from the 6.1-inch of the Plug-In. There is no price yet for the new Prius Prime but Toyota is said to sell 20,000 units in the United States yearly.
