Tracy Morgan On His Road To Recovery: 'I'm Still Here For A Reason'

In an interview with Barbara Walters for her "10 Most Fascinating People of 2015" special, Tracy Morgan, who has had a long and difficult road to recovery from a 2014 vehicular accident, said, "I survived that crash for a reason."

"I'm still here for a reason," he continued to say in the interview. The actor and comedian added: "I guess my room wasn't ready. Who knows? Maybe he kept me here to raise my daughter, to raise my family."

Tracy Morgan was involved in a deadly multi-car crash in 2014 that sent him into a coma for several days. He sustained life-threatening injuries after a Walmart tractor-trailer slammed into the chauffeured limousine he was in. The Mercedes limo bus overturned after getting hit by the truck. According to a CNN report, apart from Morgan, two others were badly injured, while another was treated and released from the hospital. Morgan's fellow comedian James McNair, also known as Jimmy Mack, died at the scene. The accident occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The 47-year-old "Saturday Night Live" alum detailed his experience at the hospital, saying, "The first night it happened, my wife got to the hospital, and the doctors told her, 'We don't know if he's coming out of this coma.'"

He told Walters that when he came out of the coma, he was blind for a week. He then had to use a wheelchair for five months and also had to undergo therapy for his brain and body. Morgan also talked about his disappointment at being unable to attend SNL's "40th Anniversary Special" in February, calling it his lowest point.

Morgan eventually made his comeback on SNL in October. The comedian is set to head back on the road for "Picking Up the Pieces," his new comedy tour. It begins in February.

The "30 Rock" actor also opened up about the settlement with Walmart, saying that it "took full responsibility for the accident, which we greatly appreciate."
