Trayvon Martin Case: Grieving Family Attends 'Million Hoodie March' Rally

A rally in memory of Trayvon Martin will take place on Wednesday night in New York City, and the late teen's family is also scheduled to attend what is designed to be a peaceful march for justice.

A spokesman for the family's lawyer confirmed that Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin will attend the "Million Hoodie March" at Union Square, and the rally is expected to begin at 6 p.m. ET, according to CBS News.

Rally participants are expected to wear hooded sweatshirts as a symbol of racial profiling, which critics say played a major role in the 17-year-old's tragic death.

The case continues to spark public outrage after it was revealed that Florida based neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, shot and killed Martin, who was completely unarmed, outside of his Sanford, Fla. gated community home on Feb. 26.

Zimmerman, 28, claimed self defense and although 911 calls along with witnesses reveal that Martin was simply walking home from the local store and that his shooting was unprovoked, Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged with any crime, which has angered various political and community leaders, including Rev. Al Sharpton.

"Zimmerman should be arrested! There's more than enough probable cause to arrest him. The whole claim of self-defense is bogus. How do you claim self-defense against someone you are pursuing?" Sharpton told the Huffington Post.

"It is an unbelievable burden, and hard to articulate, that you're born automatically a suspect, and you have to operate and behave in a way that does not exacerbate or incite someone's paranoia.

"We have come so far in this country that we can put a black man in the White House, but we can't walk a black child down the neighborhood street to get a bag of Skittles," he added.

The rally follows reports that Martin's family is now pushing for Zimmerman to be arrested and for an investigation into Sanford Police Department, which failed to act after the teen was gunned down.

Members of the public, including Sharpton, have also called for Sanford Police Chief, Bill Lee, to resign after failing to pursue the case after Martin was killed.
