Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old who was shot and killed by a neighborhood watchman near his home in a Sanford, Fla., in February, is the inspiration behind a new Internet meme: "Trayvoning." However, many are unhappy with the new Internet phenomenon that seems to mock the teen's death.
After Martin was killed at the hands of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, many expressed their outrage in the form of public protests across the country. However, some are making light of the situation with a new "Trayvoning" page on Facebook.
The page's definition of Trayvoning "is when you..get hoodie, get skittles, get Arizona, wear hoodie, go to Florida and get shot."
However, many were unamused by the images of people spread on the floor face-down in a hoodie with a bag of skittles and can of iced tea in each hand. Some said they would pray for the creator of the Facebook page.
"You got major Problems ahead of you, God does not like Ugly," one person wrote on the page. "I pray for your forgiveness. You may have laughed with your friends but your sick and need help.".
Others called for the Facebook page to be taken down.
"This is the most insulting (expletive) that i have ever seen!!! I don't care if the person was black, white or latin, to make fun of a human being that has been killed senselessly is so insensitive," another person wrote on the social media website. "This is disrespectful to his parents and the world. You should be ashamed."
Although it is unclear who started the page, some people vowed to begin a social media war to take the page down.
"You guys are some (expletive) wonders. I am reposting this ASAP," another Facebook user said. "Hope you guys are ready for social media war! You can't hide (expletive) I got your IP address!"
