'Call of Duty 3: Black Ops' Beta Testing: Treyarch Opens Free Multiplayer Beta of Game (VIDEO)

Treyarch has announced they are holding a free multiplayer beta for their upcoming "Call of Duty: Black Ops III."

Treyarch and Activision's first-person shooter sequel to "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" will have its multiplayer beta release starting from Aug. 19, the Santa Monica, California video game developer announced.

The beta will launch on PlayStation 4 by next Wednesday and run until Aug. 23, with PC and Xbox One gamers getting access to the beta by the 26th up until the end of the month.

Unfortunately, Treyarch will not be making the test available for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 consoles.

Players can pre-order the game for PC, PS4 and Xbox One from participating retailers, including PSN or Xbox Live, to get their beta keys. These keys are expected to be limited in supply, however.

The multiplayer beta will give participants access to seven modes (Team Deathmatch, Demolition, Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Capture the Flag) on three maps from the full game, including the Hunted area in the Ethiopian mountains, the Evac map in the middle of a flooded and quarantined Singapore zone, and Combine in the Egyptian Sahara.

At the start of the beta, players will be presented with the option to become specialists, with eight default specialties available: Ruin, Outrider, Prophet, Battery, Seraph, Nomad, Reaper, and Spectre to choose from. The ability to assume specialties differentiates the upcoming title different from its predecessors.

Players will also get the Weapon Paintshop, a newly introduced customization tool that allows them to add up to 64 artwork layers on the sides of their weapons.

Treyarch further released its official beta trailer Tuesday, hinting there may be more content added as the beta period progresses.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops III" is scheduled for official release on Nov. 6 for PC, PS 3, PS 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
