'Trial & Error' Season 1 Episodes 5, 6: New Evidence Leads to New Suspect; Dwayne Becomes Town Celebrity?

The town of East Peck is currently standing witness to the biggest murder trial to ever graze its otherwise quiet existence. Can rookie defense lawyer Josh (Nicholas D'Agosto) prove his accused client's innocence when all Larry (Josh Lithgow) does is incriminate himself with every breath he takes?

In the previous episode, the titanium trekking pole that was believed to have been used to kill Larry's wife, Margaret, was unearthed in Larry's front yard by Larry's own dog, thanks to some help from a pet psychic. How did the trekking pole get there? Did Larry bury it in an attempt to cover up his crime, or did someone purposefully put it there to set Larry up?

The official synopses for the two next episodes airing back-to-back next week reveal new developments in the case, which may or may not be of any help in proving Larry's innocence. In episode 5 titled "Right-Hand Man," Josh and his team trips up a new piece of evidence that points a finger on the most unlikely, yet also most dangerous, of all potential suspects: Larry's own brother-in-law, Jeremiah (Bob Gunton).

Meanwhile, the team's lead investigator, Dwayne (Steven Boyer), will go out in search of a new murder weapon, but will instead find a dismembered human arm, which will turn him into a sort of town celebrity in episode 6 titled "Secrets & Lies."

But this brief exposure may actually lead to something good as the team wins themselves a surprising new benefactor. On the other hand, while Josh focuses his attention on his new suspect, Larry offers to take a lie-detector test to prove his innocence once and for all. However, the subsequent result may only further jeopardize their case.

A sneak peek video posted by NBC revealed that the cast, aside from Lithgow, has no idea who the real suspect is. Actress Jayma Mays, who plays the role of the prosecutor, Carol Anne, even revealed that she secretly believes her character may have done it. And Krysta Rodriguez, who plays the role of Larry's adoptive daughter, Summer, agreed.

A person may be innocent until proven guilty. But with no actual suspect to pin the murder on, everybody can also be fair game.

"Trial & Error" season 1 episodes 5 and 6 airs back-to-back on Tuesday, March 28, starting at 9 p.m. EDT on NBC.
