In an undated photo, the United Nations Human Rights Commission convenes in Geneva, Switzerland, beginning March 15 until April 23, 2004, with attendance of over 3,000 delegates. Most recently, the Brazilian resolution which proposed for "sexual orientation" to be considered a human right was tabled due to opposition from the United States, a coalition of Islamic nations and the Brazilian government, which is predominantly Catholic.

The Commission on Human Rights, comprised of 53-member countries, examines, monitors and publicly reports on human rights situations in specific countries or territories, and on major human rights phenomena worldwide.
