UFC 196 News: Former Champ Jon Jones Rooting For Rafael Dos Anjos To Beat Conor McGregor

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is rooting for lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos to successfully defend his title against challenger and featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

Dos Anjos and McGregor will be headlining UFC 196, which is slated to take place on March 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The night's co-main event feature would be between bantamweight champion Holly Holm and former title-challenger Miesha Tate.

McGregor has been accurate in his predictions so far, making him a huge draw despite his brash personality.

This has also led many people to believe that he can pull off upsets, especially after his 13-second victory over long-time featherweight champion José Aldo at UFC 194 last December. Not everyone, however, is rooting for him to win against dos Anjos at UFC 196.

In a recent interview with Brazilian actress Rainah Andrews, Jones explained why he is picking dos Anjos, despite McGregor's hot streak.

"Based on RDS' performances, I think I'm going to go with him," Jones said. "I'm not rooting for either person, but If I had to put my money on someone, I'd put it on RDS ... RDA, I've been calling him RDS."

Jones also based his pick on dos Anjos' last fight against Donald Cerrone. Cerrone, who is "Bones'" teammate, was stopped in the first round of their title fight at UFC on FOX 17 last December 19th.

According to Jones, he had seen what level Dos Anjos was on, which convinces him that the Brazilian could indeed emerge victorious against the Irishman.

Both men are coming off impressive win streaks, so far. McGregor, who holds a record of 19-2, with 18 victories by stoppage, last tasted defeat in 2010. Upon his entry in the UFC in 2013, he has won all of his seven fights so far. Six of this victories ended by stoppage.

Dos Anjos, on the other hand, holds a record of 25-7, with 13 victories by stoppage. He last tasted defeat in 2014, but has won his last five fights. Three of this victories ended by stoppage.
